I was cast in a small theatrical play as Pauline, wife of Bucky O’Neill (hero of the Spanish American War who infamously told his troops “There is no Spanish bullet molded that can kill me,” stood up behind the lines, and was promptly shot and killed . . .) Trying to blend theater requirements with accuracy was really interesting. Certain colors don’t look good under theatrical lights, most of them apparently very popular during the late 1890’s. The end result was this cranberry color and the striped blouse.
